Hymers College Girls' 1st Team vs  The Grammar School at Leeds
On: Saturday, 08 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

Saturday 8th September saw the Girls 1st Team hockey travel to Leeds to play GSAL. After a difficult performance against the Hymers President’s Team, we were unsure how this notoriously tricky fixture would fair.

Two early goals from GSAL placed the opposition in a favourable position, however our fluid team passing took the ball into GSAL’s D and an eager Isabella Robson flicked the ball into the back of the net, scoring Hymers’ first goal of the season. Hymers dominated play in the first half with a strong performance coming from all players, disappointingly we entered half time down by one goal.

In the second half of the game we were raring to go and within the first five minutes we had scored two great goals, one from Jess Robinson and the other from Gina de Lancey. Both again were due to cohesive team passing in and around GSAL’s D.

Further dominating play from Hymers lead to the breakdown of GSAL’s defence and we managed to win a short corner, 1st XI debutant Faith Martin-Porter stood up to the mark and scored from an impressive reverse hit. Hymers now held a 4-2 lead.

GSAL hit back and won two short corners, however Laura Vize’s solid goal keeping skills ensured that they only scored from one.

The game ended with superb celebration as Hymers took a monumental 4-3 win over GSAL.
